Wallie Domestic Shorthair Senior Male for sale in Spokane, Washington

Wallie's story
Gentle, fairly easy going and very chatty, Wallie is an unusual boy with a couple of quirks. We have to be honest and say that it does take Wallie quite a while to get to know new people to the point where he doesn't give them a warning slap when they come to say hello. It was the same with the staff at the shelter. After a few weeks, he would allow some gentle strokes, but not too much at one time or he will become stressed. He needs to be the one in charge and he will let you know when he does not want touching or attention. He is much more relaxed when he is out of his room where he may feel somewhat trapped when people come and pay close attention to him. He has a very distinctive voice which you have to hear to understand. Always greets those he knows with a lot of talk, asks to be let out for a walk, asks for food even when he just finished his meal. He seems to get along with other cats as long as they are respectful and don't crowd him. He spends long periods of time loose in the cat room with several other cats and he never seems to have issues with them, even when they brush past him. He will back up or have something to say if another cats corners or crowds him but he has done very well with the other cats here. Clueless kittens earn a rapid slap on the head though. Strange, annoying little creatures...you can see it in his eyes. He obviously does get stressed when there are a lot of people in the cat room and he will try to avoid and then hide from people if they keep pursuing him. An obvious signal to leave him alone.
He should go to an adult only home with experienced cat people. NOT a cat for a home with children. He has TONS of potential for the person who is willing to look past his sometimes gruff exterior and see the sweet, quirky, slightly insecure guy who is just looking for a calm place to settle down. Once he feels secure and safe, he's going to relax and really open up and I think you'll see a whole other side to Wallie. He is not demanding or destructive. He comes running, or trotting quickly, when he thinks there is a snack to be had. Responds well to his name too. There is just so much going on in his head, you can SEE him thinking. He will make a great companion for that patient, laid back person. Don't judge him just on that first impression, there is so much more going on..........
